Worse Than Taxes: The Spending

Thursday, November 19

John Stossel has a great article "Worse Than Taxes: The Spending" at RealClearPolitics. This is something Gary Johnson talks about at length. If they would just stop the spending we would not need to raise taxes. It is a vicious cycle the politicians get the states and our country in.

Gary Johnson to Keynote 2012 International Students for Liberty Conference

Wednesday, November 18

Coming from their site StudentsforLiberty.org:

"Gary Johnson, the former Governor of New Mexico will be the Friday Keynote for the International Students For Liberty Conference on February 12-14th at American University. For 8 years Gary Johnson was one of the most principled Governors in the country who lived up to his libertarian reputation.

As Governor Gary Johnson was a principled and effective defender of both economic and civil liberties. Under Johnson’s administration, New Mexico experienced the longest period without a tax increase in the state’s history, the rate of growth in the state government was cut in half, half of the state’s prisons were privatized, state Medicaid was shifted to managed care, and the state was left with approximately 1,000 fewer employees (with no firings) and a budget surplus. He has also advocated the decriminalization of drug use and possession calling the war on drugs and “expensive bust”. Recently, Governor Johnson has founded the Our America Initiative to advocate for smaller government and more freedom.

Governor Johnson is a great advocate of liberty and we are thrilled to have him join us. Reserve your seat today by registering for the International Conference: http://politicalconferences.org/2009/07/zow/"
Good to see a student group wanting Gary to keynote their conference. Getting young people involved is a must for the Republican party to compete.

Note to self: The Republican Party needs only one tentpole

Tuesday, November 17

I think this blogger has it figured out, I want to echo their post.

Fiscal Conservatism. Remember that?

Yeah, I know. Crazy idea. But wait, aren't Republicans for "tax cuts"? Ostensibly. But do you know what's even better than "tax cuts"? Spending cuts! Because cutting government revenue and increasing spending ('cause who's against that?) leads to... huuuge deficits. Which now threaten to destroy the country.

Every so-called principal was abandoned during the Bush era, with the final nail in the coffin was the selection of presidential candidate John McCain, whose platform was reduced to "Lookit me, I'm a Veteran" and "Earmarks ur bad" and then 'suspending his campaign' to vote for the bailouts.

For too long Republicans have done a targeted 1% tax cut and allowed 5% more in spending, and called themselves fiscal conservatives. This ends now.....

Read the rest here, that was just a taste of what they had to say.

Here is a brief interview with Gary on the death of former New Mexico Governor Bruce King.

Pajamas Media: America, Here's Your Change Candidate for 2012

Thursday, November 12

The headline says it all. Here is a  fair, thorough and honest critique of Gary Johnson's possible impact as a candidate in 2012 from PajamasMedia:

Count another one in. Gary Johnson, the former two-term Republican governor of New Mexico, is launching his new Our America PAC, an obvious stepping stone to launching a run for president. Next time around, the “Ron Paul revolution” will have a new candidate, one that will promise sweeping libertarian change and that has executive experience and a persona more marketable than the squeaky-voiced self-proclaimed “defender of the Constitution.”

It would be a big mistake to assume Johnson has limited appeal and can only hope to poll in the single digits. Never underestimate the power of college kids who want pot legalized. I’ve seen political science classes erupt into a furor when the topic is mentioned, with students who previously could have passed for a corpse suddenly becoming passionate policy experts, throwing out statistics and eloquent arguments. Their lungs may contain so much smoke that they get high every time they exhale, but their votes count just as much as anyone else’s.
Johnson has the capability to activate a very enthusiastic portion of the American public with his libertarian message and the fact that he is simply so different........continue reading

Also at the Hill.com, famous pundit Armstrong Williams asks "Will there be a Republican dark horse in 2012?" He fails to mention Gary Johnson, I hope he catches wind of what is going on here.

Even the liberal blogosphere is taking notice. Mydd.com had a post today "New Mexico's Gary Johnson Raising His 2012 Profile" and it is not a hit piece! That is a good sign since the 527 is called "Our America" not "Conservatives America" or "Progressives America".
